Josh Mitchell
"Hi, I'm Josh Mitchell, a Long Island-based insurance agent with over 10 years of experience helping families and couples protect what matters most. I started offering wedding insurance because I watched too many couples lose thousands of dollars to vendor cancellations, closed businesses, and unexpected emergencies, and I knew there was a better way. My job is simple: make sure that on the most important day of your life, the only thing you're thinking about is each other, not your deposits. I'm a local agent, I answer my own phone, and I'm here whenever you need me."
Nick Mitchell
"Hi, I'm Nick Mitchell, Co-Founder and Business Development Manager at Long Island Wedding Insurance. I built this company alongside Josh because I believe every couple deserves someone in their corner when the unexpected happens. My own daughter got married in 2025, and I watched her stress over every little detail of that day — the venue, the flowers, the photographer. I know exactly what it feels like to have so much riding on one perfect day. When you reach out to us, know that there's a real team of people here who genuinely care about you and your wedding. I'm here to listen, answer any questions I can, and make sure you feel taken care of every step of the way. When you're ready to get covered, I'll put you directly in Josh's hands."
Couples Who Were So Glad They Did
Real stories from real couples who protected their day — and their savings.
"Our florist went out of business six weeks before our wedding and kept our $4,200 deposit. Long Island Wedding Insurance walked us through the whole claims process and we got every dollar back through our policy in time to book a new florist. I don't know what we would have done without it."
"Our DJ cancelled on us two months out and refused to return the deposit. We filed a claim and got every dollar back within a couple days. That money went straight toward booking someone else. Total lifesaver."
"Our caterer suddenly shut down two months before the wedding and we lost our entire deposit. We filed a claim and got reimbursed so we could put that money toward a new caterer. It saved our whole reception."
"The venue we booked closed down without any warning and we lost our deposit. Long Island Wedding Insurance helped us file the claim and we got our money back through the policy — enough to find a new venue without coming out of pocket a second time. Absolutely worth it."
"Our videographer stopped responding entirely and we found out he had shut down his business. We got our deposit back through the claim and used it to hire someone new. Never thought I'd need this but so glad I had it."
"Our limo company went out of business three weeks before the wedding and kept our deposit. We filed the claim online, got reimbursed fast, and booked a new car service in time. Couldn't believe how easy the whole process was."
Everything You Need to Know
The sooner the better — ideally as soon as you start paying deposits to vendors. Most policies can be purchased up to 2 years before your wedding date and must be bought at least 14 days before the event.
No problem. You can insure future deposits immediately and, in most cases, we can also cover already-paid deposits for vendors. Our agents will review your existing contracts and advise the best coverage approach.
Standard policies do not cover cancellation due to a change of heart. Coverage applies to unexpected external events — vendor failures, severe weather, sudden illness or injury, military deployment, and similar circumstances beyond your control.
Log into your account, click "File a Claim," upload your receipts and documentation, and submit. Our team reviews every claim within 48 business hours. Elite plan holders get same-day review with a dedicated concierge.
Yes. Our Elite plan includes international destination wedding coverage. We cover vendors in over 60 countries. Contact our team for a custom quote if your wedding is outside the United States.
No medical exam or health questionnaire is required. Wedding insurance is event-based coverage — approval is instant and based on your event details, not personal health factors.
Yes, this is covered. If an immediate family member — including a parent, sibling, or the couple themselves — suffers a serious illness or injury that makes it impossible to hold the wedding as planned, your policy covers postponement costs and lost deposits so you can reschedule without losing everything you've already paid.
Typically you'll need your signed vendor contract, proof of payment (receipt or bank statement), and a written explanation of what happened. If a vendor went out of business, a screenshot or notice of closure helps. Our claims team walks you through exactly what's needed — the process is straightforward and we never ask for unnecessary paperwork.
Many venues on Long Island and throughout New York now require couples to carry wedding insurance — especially for liability coverage — before they'll confirm a booking. Our policies include a certificate of insurance you can provide directly to your venue. If your venue has specific coverage requirements, contact us and we'll make sure your policy meets them.
Absolutely. Outdoor weddings are actually one of the most common reasons couples file claims — unexpected weather, tent failures, or venue access issues can all disrupt an outdoor event. Our policies cover weather-related postponements and vendor losses specific to outdoor celebrations, including tent rentals, outdoor sound equipment, and open-air venue deposits.
This is one of the most common situations we handle. If a vendor cancels, closes, or fails to perform their contracted services and refuses to return your deposit, your policy kicks in and reimburses you directly. You shouldn't have to fight a vendor in small claims court — that's exactly what this coverage is for.
Yes. A single policy covers the couple and both immediate families. Any vendor deposits paid by either family — whether it's the bride's parents covering the venue or the groom's family paying for the rehearsal dinner — can be included under one policy, keeping everything simple and consolidated.
Travel insurance is designed to cover individual travelers — lost luggage, flight delays, and medical emergencies while abroad. Wedding insurance is specifically designed to protect the entire event — your venue, vendors, attire, deposits, and more. If your honeymoon is part of your coverage needs, our Premier and Elite plans include honeymoon deposit protection as well.
No. Your policy covers all vendors up to the total coverage limit of your selected plan. Whether you have 5 vendors or 15, as long as the total amount is within your plan's coverage limit, every vendor is protected. If your total vendor costs exceed a standard plan limit, our Elite plan or a custom quote can cover the full amount.
If a covered event — such as a serious illness, death in the immediate family, severe weather, or venue closure — forces you to cancel your wedding entirely, your policy reimburses all non-recoverable deposits and prepaid costs. Cancellation due to a voluntary change of plans is not covered, but any qualifying unforeseen circumstance is.
